Featured Presentation

Introduction to Microsoft's Master Data Services (MDS)

Speaker: James Serra, BI/Data Warehouse/MDM Architect Serra Consulting Services

Summary: Companies struggle with consolidating the same set of data from multiple systems to accurately report on critical business information. For example, having customer lists in multiple systems that often have the same customer in more than one list, sometimes with a different spelling. Master Data Services is bundled with SQL Server 2012 to help resolve many of the Master Data Management issues that companies are faced with when integrating data. In this session, James will show an overview of Master Data Services 2012, including the out of the box Web UI, the highly developed Excel Add-in, and how to get started with loading MDS with your data.

About James: James Serra is an independent consulting with the title of Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse/Master Data Management Architect and has over 25 years of IT experience. Starting out as a software developer, he then served as a DBA for 12 years and for the past seven years has been working extensively with BI using the SQL Server BI stack (Integration Services, Analysis Services, and Reporting Services). James is a noted speaker, blogger, and contributing writer for SQL Server Pro magazine.

We'll also look at a custom dashboard that ties corporate-wide BI usage into a single, unified view.

About Tyler: Tyler is a Technology Specialist with Microsoft helping customers adopt and implement BI solutions and he is the long-time Microsoft liaison to HASSUG and founder of the Houston BI User Group.
