Managing SQL Server in the Enterprise with CMS, PBM and EPM

This session will introduce several SQL Server 2008+ features and tools designed to make a DBA’s life easier – including those of you still managing SQL Server 2005 or even SQL Server 2000! If you aren’t using CMS, PBM, or EPM Framework – come learn what they are and the potential benefits for managing your environment.
About Nancy Hidy:
Nancy Hidy Wilson has been working with Microsoft SQL Server since 1994. She originally volunteered for PASS at the first Community Summit held in Chicago in 1999 and has served on various PASS Committees since that time. Nancy was a PASS Community Summit speaker from 2000-2007. More recently, Nancy presented “Managing SQL Server in the Enterprise with TLAs” at SQLSaturday #97 in Austin. Nancy has led the Houston Area SQL Server User Group (HASSUG) since 2001 and presents there as needed. She also lead the steering team for Houston’s SQLSaturday #57 in January 2011 and currently leads the steering team for SQLSaturday #107 in April 2012. Nancy’s focus for the past 17+ years has been on providing standardized installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server for the global enterprise environment. Nancy holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Baylor University.
Intro to Using Spatial Data Types in BI Solutions

SQL Server added support for geometry and geography data types with the release of SQL Server 2008 and has been enhancing support in each subsequent release. This talk will provide a brief introduction into these capabilities including loading shape data into a database, performing spatial queries, visualizing results, and examples of how to marry these GIS features with existing BI solutions.
